Physical Development

“The wider the range of possibilities we offer children, the more intense will be their motivations and the richer their experiences”

-Loris Malaguzzi

Physical activity is vital in children’s all-round development, enabling them to pursue happy, healthy, and active lives. Gross and fine motor skills develop incrementally throughout early childhood and provide the foundation for developing healthy bodies and social and emotional well-being.

At Horsted Keynes Preschool we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Physical Development is about the following at Horsted Keynes Preschool:

  • Providing a balanced programme of activities to support the physical development and wellbeing of the children

  • Supporting children to take measured risks

  • Developing children's understanding of the importance of physical exercise for promoting good health, both mental and physical

  • Developing children's fine motor skills and dexterity through using such media as play dough and corn flour

  • Allowing children to take risks

  • Developing children's gross motor skills through such experiences as den building
