Food at Preschool

Horsted Keynes Preschool make snacks and meals a social time at which children and adults
eat together. We plan the snacks so that they provide the children with healthy and nutritious choices.

Do tell us about your child's dietary needs and we will make sure that these are met.

Snacks

10.00am – 10.30am

We ask for a donation of fruit each day towards your child’s snack time. Please do not allow your
children to bring any other snacks to Preschool such as sweets and biscuits.

We operate a rolling Snack system whereby we encourage the children to come and choose for themselves from such things as Toast, Cheese, Breadsticks and Fruit. If they are able, we like to encourage the children to pour their own drinks from a choice of Milk or Water.

Lunch

12:00pm - 12:45pm

All children can bring a packed lunch to Preschool. Please ensure your child’s lunchbox is clearly labelled on the outside as it is extremely important that children with allergies do not pick up the wrong lunch box.

Please see our ‘Healthy Eating in the Early Years’ leaflet for some suggestions for lunchboxes.

Allergies

If your child has an allergy to any food, staff must be informed. All of us are Epi-Pen trained although training has to carried out for each individual child.  We do not allow children to share food from their lunchboxes, but to protect those children with allergies, please do not pack any nuts or nut products (including peanut butter) in your child’s lunch. We may also have other restrictions from time to time, depending on the allergies of the children at the time. See our 'Managing children who are sick, infectious or with allergies' policy for more details.
